Hundred Happy Things: The Power of Honesty

What happens when you decide upon a deadline and don't meet it? In some cases, you might even die or cause deaths and destructions. Fortunately, a little punishment would be enough in this case. It is the fourth day from the last blog post. I did what I am best at doing. Procrastinating! But I cannot abandon this thread. It is way more personal than any of you can imagine. In fact, it is way more personal than I would ever mention aloud. Twist in the story is, this particularly incident is not what I witnessed, but in my defence, I heard it straight from horse's mouth. It took place in Jodhpur, my very own sun city. It resurfaced day before while working in kitchen on an omlette. In the year 1999, The Lonely Planet listed a small shop from Jodhpur as the "The omlette shop". Cheap price, quality and the element of surprise made the man behind the counter a superstar and his business boomed after it. So much so, that he scrapped everything else off his men...

Hundred Happy Things: The Power of Hope

Blame it on poor health, but having not left the house for many days deprives you of many things. These stories I intend to write are one of them.  It's been almost two weeks now that I am house arrested for this terrible lung infection I have. I always wanted a vacation, just not of this kind. And for the promise I made to myself, I had to dig up stories from past. Well, the thread must go on! Another incident which knocked at my door last week is related to my household help. She seems to be in her late thirties going by the stories she has told me. To the naive eyes, she won't look a day older than 25. A mother of four, and a wife of a construction worker she has a lot going on in her life. She is unlike some of the people I came across from her trade. I, along with many Indian ladies, have had both good and bad experience in terms of house helps. They can at times be pain in neck. But if there is some good karma in your kitty, you would find one who is nice. My karm...

Hundred Happy things : The Power of Dreams

As promised, I woke up this morning with the determination to write for this new thread. There was an incident playing at the back of my mind since last few days and I wanted it to be the opener. There is a middle tier vegetable vendor in my society market. Now if you are residing or have resided in India, and I am not counting the tourists in, you would know what I am talking about. This guy has a fixed place to operate, a land line telephone connection which helps him home delivering the orders and customised bills which he uses more as a visiting card than for its usual purpose. No, he does not go out handing it over to people on street, he just hands over one if you would want to order something over phone the next time.   We have all heard our share of stories to know that he is not really going through a financial crisis of any sort. And we know better than to look down at people like these. After all, at times their daily income is much more than what we earn sitting i...

Hundred Happy Things

So after failing royally at much talked about hundred days challenges, I decided that things that shallow are not for me. Call that sour grapes, for that is what it is. I decided to come up with something original. Few things which I had improvised and adapted had given me much pleasure and positivity that I decided to keep getting "inspired" and taking credit for it. For example, the idea of making someone happy in my version was, to pay an honest compliment to someone who is not expecting it. Now that of course had certain conditions attached with it. The compliment need not be a ground breaking one, "nice dress", "I like your hair colour" would suffice. But it should be meant and sound genuine. It worked! Now I don't know if people have cracked interviews or have saved lives just because I paid them a compliment in the morning, but it worked in my favour a lot many times. For example, the Janitor on Sydney airport who took all the trouble to f...

A Battle Never Won

I will chose my own battles, and you may chose your own.   Just don't be disappointed   if they are not the same. Some people change, for the good.   And some of us don't complain. We try to make it right, And we do not explain. If we think its not going to Be right for a while, Silently we move away And walk alone a mile. If we turn back and see you, Making an effort to connect We will welcome you once again All wrongs, we will forget But if you will let us go, There are many turns on the way We will wish you good luck,   And will keep walking away! So let it be the way it is, Some stories just don't last. I am sure you will get many friends The world is way too vast! And I am happy in my own world, The way I want it to be. I don't want to be saturated like you, I just want to be free! As they say, to each Its just their own And it is going to be A battle never won!

Happy Mother's Day

I do not remember what I saw when I opened my eyes for the first time. Going by the writing of others, it must have been happy and sparkling eyes of my parents. Since I was the first child I surely did not have confusing face of a sibling around me! And I gather I had my maternal grandparents around. But all this is just the information I have got from others. I honestly do not remember what it was like to be born. But that is not important. What is important is that my grandmother was there on my mother’s side when I was born. And she was there again when my brother was born.  It is not her fault that my youngest brother decided to arrive a little too early and that spoiled her plans. But she came rushing as soon as she got the news. That probably justifies the love she has for all of us. She saw us when we were useless naked ugly creatures. We cried and pooped whenever we felt like, having no respect for the hour or the living beings around us. She loved us then, how can s...

Mother of the chosen one

Now all is said and done, I am left with a blue scarf As that was one piece of cloth, they did not have to tear apart From the lady with a camera to my milk man Everybody asks me how I feel repeatedly What do I say to their questions? When words have failed me completely I want to tell them that I celebrated Like any other mother, when she was born I loved her when she held my finger first And I love her even now when I mourn She was a chirpy child like any other With her pigtails and eyes so bright And she smiled every time She got her maths sums right We had many sleepless nights When she was a child How we wanted her to grow up then To get rid of an adventure so wild How were we to know, that For rest of our lives we would never sleep she was our proud and honor, but her memory has  left a scar so deep I don’t know what they saw in her Or what she did which was so wrong To see her in the group of girls returning ...

Writers' Block

Since the time we got hitched It will a year quite soon Its amazing how everything has changed But in our minds, it always has been june! From “that’s-ma-guy” to “meet-ma-hubby” The journey has had its ups and downs I wish I had kept my temper in check, But we have had more smiles, lesser frowns! I discovered the clown in me, You found out you could be a child We thought we got to know life And we thought we were lost in wild! Marriage is made up of two people, And laughter acts as the glue Why am I coming up with such shitty rhyming Seriously, I have no clue! But I am sure you know what I mean Even when you cannot read mind! I am blessed to have you around And you are lucky as I am one of a kind! Since it’s humiliating, and difficult To go on when you have writer’s block All I would say, I loved this year With you, everyday round the clock!

Flight of dreams

Today , for once, I am complete And younger than I would ever be again Today I am breathing happily And I am free from any pain Yes, I did make some mistakes But this morning I woke up and I am alive, Proof enough that I have been forgiven So I would rejoice and revive What I thought to be an end, Is just a new beginning, it turns out So today I will laugh out loud And at the top of my lungs, shout I will free the songs trapped in my head And out of the cage, they will fly I will hold their wings and they will Carry me to the blue bright sky There I will catch some clouds and In my pockets, I will stuff them If they get little ruffled, My dreams will again fluff them And you make sure birds are chirping When I put my feet back on land I have collected all the stars to make you smile,  And I will put them on your hand And you will give me shells you collected On the blue green sea shore They will sing to us the sec...

Crazy dance of happy snowflakes

No, I won’t answer the phones today! I am not in a mood, let’s just say! If you knock the door, I won’t be found You won’t hear, in my house, a sound! I will be watching crazy dance of happy snowflakes, Of a grown up woman, a lost child they make! Sitting on a window, I am a little girl again, Oblivious to smiles, heart breaks or pain! All I want is to soak in all I see, hear and find No glimpses of future, no memories rewind! No failures of past, no worries of tomorrows No fits of giggles, no shadowing sorrows I just want to stick my tongue out, To taste the snow, to scream and shout To make this world a place worth living, Ohh for once, I am done complaining and jiving!

Being human!

You can be the most practical person around who counts their chicken before they hatch or the most calculative one who foresees the pros and cons of everything they get into. You can be the strongest one who takes responsibility for all your decisions and bear the brunt of everything with your shoulder high and chin up. Trust me, none of this works when you fall in love. Suddenly earth seems to be a better place to be on. People around you make no difference to your life how so ever stupid they might be (and these are the people who made your life miserable before the miracle happened!). Karan johar was not wrong when he said that the world looks quite colourful when you are in love. He just made it too literal in his movies though!  There comes a stage when your madness crosses all the limits possible and you decide to give up everything just to be with the “perfect partner” (or the “right one”, as they diplomatically call it). You give up everything you had hard earn...
